| A flat tyre and a broken torsion arm hampered the two 92.9 Kendrick Racing cars in the 48th WA Sprintcar Championship at the Perth Motorplex last Saturday night. But team owner Geoff Kendrick wasn’t too disappointed with the way things panned out – seeing plenty of progress in both the drivers. For the record Kerry Madsen fought back to claim third in the 30-lap feature race after starting on the fifth row while Jason Kendrick withdrew after the torsion arm took early retirement. Madsen’s was up against it in qualifying at the start of the night when he suffered from a deflating tyre, putting him well down the order. He fought back in the heats and along with Kendrick, they both qualified for the top 10. “Both cars then had plenty of pace in the feature race and Kerry was finishing pretty strong - he probably needed another five laps,” Kendrick senior said. “The Motorplex is a very good place to pass cars when you are coming from the rear but it was a different kind of track on the night which made passing harder. “I was also impressed with the way Jason handled himself until he had to withdraw from the contest.” The team is looking to make amends when they contest a round of the AHG Sprintcar Series in Northam this Saturday night. A strong field of about 16 cars is expected at the country venue – an hour east of Perth on the Great Eastern Highway. From there the team will head to the Perth Motorplex for a shakedown of two new cars at the Fast Friday show on December 11 before packing up the gear to head to the east. The Kendrick outfit joins the Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars action in Adelaide on Boxing Day and will not be seen back in Perth until the series grand final in February. “We have a busy schedule on the east coast but we will probably do even more races over there providing everything is ok.
