Cowara Motorsport Claim First Win
Posted Wednesday, 13 January 2010 by BCM Motorsports Marketing
The Cowara Motorsports Sprintcar Team and driver Ken Sartori claimed their first win of the season at Margaret River in the second round of the Hydraulink Southern Thunder Series.

What a difference a week makes! The meeting prior had seen Sartori wreck the Philmac #41 Maxim in a violent accident that garnered national television coverage all over Australia. The car was repaired and Sartori returned to claim a second in his final heat, and then come from sixteenth starting position to claim another top five finish. It was a remarkable job by the driver and the team to bounce back for that result.

With the impending debut of another Maxim car currently being built by the team, it was decided that this weekend will probably be the last time this actual car would run, so even with a bend in the left front bottom chassis rail the car was prepped by the team and it didn’t let them down.

Sartori was brilliant from the start of the evening through to the end. After taking out a heat win during the preliminaries, he had earned enough points to qualify on the front row, and with the Margaret River track being the teams home track he didn’t want to disappoint. Once the green flag dropped Sartori never looked in doubt. As the race wore on he looked stronger and stronger as the rest of the field had no answer for him and the beautiful black and red beast.

Afterwards you could tell by the look on his face that he was happy to finally take out a win for the team and their supporters. “We had a pretty good car tonight, we were
consistent through the heats, and with the way the track was it was mine to lose. I wasn’t going to make any mistakes and I have to thank the Duggan family and everyone
associated with them as they have been fantastic to me and I’m so excited for them more than anything. This is their home track and all their friends, family and sponsors are
from down here so it’s good all round.”

Car owner Steve Duggan was understandably walking the pits with a smile like a split watermelon. “Stoked! Elated!” were the first two words out of that beaming face. “I was emotional as I walked down to the presentations. Ken’s gone through a lot of pain with this car, we all have. To get the job done is just awesome. The win is going to give us more confidence, we knew a win wasn’t far away and we have had to work hard to get there but to do it in our home town is brilliant.”

The Hydraulink Series takes the Sprintcars out to the country tracks and adds a different element for the teams that you don’t find running the same track all the time, and it’s a concept that Sartori likes. “It’s a great idea and I wish they had of done this years ago. These little tracks is what speedway is all about. Getting away from the city track gives it a country feel to it, getting to the grass roots of racing. You have to do different things to the cars instead of the same stuff all the time and its enjoyable for everybody.”

So the record books show that Sartori has taken his first victory of the 2009/10 season, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Soon the big shows start here in the west with the World Series Sprintcars finale, The Nanovich Memorial and the big one, The Krikke Boys Shootout all coming in February. The best from Australia and the USA will be on hand and Sartori knows how to run with them, and you know that the Cowara team will make sure everything will be ready to take them on when they hit town.
