| Ben Bounces Back Posted Friday, 19 February 2010 by Fastrax Media |
| After a difficult few weeks, Ben Ellement has finally bounced back with a fine fifth placing in round three of the Southern Thunder Sprintcar Series at Collie Speedway. Finding good form at this time puts Ben in good stead for the King of Wings and Krikke Boys Shootout, both coming up in the next fortnight. Ben started the night time trialling in first position. It was a nail biter, with Ben recording a 13.70 fast lap, and then last car out Brooke Tatnell stopping the clock with a 13.71; Ben winning by the smallest of margins. The main aim for the heats was to keep the car straight and finish in order to get as many points as possible to contribute to a good A Main starting position. This Ben managed to do; starting and finishing sixth in his first heat, then starting fifth in his second and finishing third. These results put Ben on the front row of Dash B alongside Robbie Farr. Farr got the jump but Ben fought back underneath him, before Farr used the highline to his advantage and moved ahead. Ben again fought back, trying to go underneath him, but Farr again held his line up high and stayed ahead of Ben. He managed to hold this position and finished second in the Dash, placing him out of fourth in the A Main. The A Main was 30 laps of the tough Collie clay way. By the time the chequered flag was dropped Ben was in fifth place. This finish was enough to restore Ben’s confidence and he is now ready and rearing to go. “We were able to use this race as a chance to really go over the car. We were able to find and fix some fundamental issues, now we are looking to stay consistent. We have had a few quick times recently but apart from that, really, we have not had the results we are after. Now we have got some form back we can carry that into the King of the Wings and the Krikke Boys Shootout.” Indeed, Ben is still looking for first a main win at the Perth Motorplex, as well as looking to repeat last years efforts at the Krikke Boys, where he managed to win the preliminary A Main and qualified strongly for the second night. With his loyal sponsors – Stingaz surf ‘n’ skate, J & S Drilling, Rogers Concrete, All Hours Electrics, SW Earthworks, Ellement Produce, Flex Fitness, DC Ellement Psychological Services, Watsons Express Transport, JP Signs, Cool Chassis, Dickos Mobile Welding and Fastrax Media, as well as his band of crew, his family and his fans, Ben is looking forward to some big results in the next few weeks. Here’s hoping he can notch his first big win on the board after coming so close so many times! Words by Scott Beattie for Fastrax Media Photos by Mel Parker for Fastrax Media. |
