Cowara Team Getting Ready

It's all systems go getting ready for the rapidly approaching 2014-15 racing season for the Cowara Motorsport Team.

Team owner Steve Duggan is pleased to announce that the 2012-13 AHG Sprintcar Series Champion Cameron Gessner will be back behind the wheel again, with the very experienced Keith Giles continuing as the crew chief.

"We will have three brand new cars plus last years' car," said Duggan. "We want to have one car to race, one in the trailer as a spare, plus two more sitting in the shed."

The format for this season has been changed, with the final four round "Chase" scenario eliminated.

Instead there will be 13 rounds of racing for the title at the Perth Motorplex and Quit Bunbury Speedway.

This change should suit the Cowara Motorsport #41 team as consistency over the entire series will determine the major placegetters.

The former Queensland Sprintcar Champion Gessner is renowned for his ability to get the most out of the car and to finish races.

The team is still to decide whether they will venture over to the east again to contest some of the major shows.

The Australian Sprintcar Championship will be staged at the Bunbury venue on February 13 and 14, and is high on their list of priorities,
as Gessner has finished third in the national title on two previous occasions.

Crew chief Keith Giles, who joined the team in the latter part of last season, is currently flat out getting all of the cars completed for the season opener at Perth Motorplex on Saturday October 18.

"I'm working hard getting all of the cars ready," said Giles. "We are still waiting for a few parts to arrive.
"It's a whole new deal for me, but I'm looking forward to it."

The Grand Opening Showdown meeting at Kwinana on October 18 provides the Cowara Motorsport Team with an opportunity to create some more Speedway history.

Last year Gessner won the opening event of the season for the second time in a row - the first time ever a driver had gone back to back on opening night.

Now he has the chance to make it a hat-trick.

Following his victory in the 2012-13 AHG Sprintcar Series competition, Gessner again proved competitive in every single outing last summer.

He led the pointscore after the 13 round preliminary section of the competition, and also after the first of the four rounds of the "Chase".

A crash in the third round put him out of contention - but it was still a very successful season - with two race victories in WA, plus taking out the four round Southern Thunder Series at Bunbury, finishing third in the King's Royal event at Mount Gambier, and a creditable twelfth (out of a record 118 drivers including 20 Americans) in the Grand Annual Classic event at Warrnambool.

Expect the Cowara Motorsport team to be firing on all eight cylinders when the green flag drops at the season opener at Perth Motorplex on Saturday October 18.
