Tough field for round 2

JASON KENDRICK - A DNF IN ROUND 1 - WILL BE BACK FOR ROUND TWO NEXT SATURDAY NIGHT. PIC BY PETER ROEBUCK.

ANOTHER strong field is locked in for round two of the AHG Sprintcar Series that will be contested at the Perth Motorplex next Saturday night.

This event is the Magic Man 34 that pays tribute to the late, great Michael Figliomeni, with the Sprintcar and Speedcar feature races both to be decided over 34 laps.

Figliomeni was a champion in both divisions and given how highly he was regarded a lot of drivers have pencilled in this race as one they want to win.

David Priolo won the sprintcar feature race last year and had admitted he is eyeing off back-to-back wins.

Ryan Farrell, the winner of the opening round of the series at the Motorplex last Tuesday night, will be looking to improve his race fitness and try and claim another feature race win.

Jamie Maiolo, who went close to winning his first feature race in a few seasons this week, will be even more determined to get on the stop step of the podium.

Cameron Gessner, who finished third, showed some good pace throughout the main event, and you can be guaranteed that along with crew chief Keith Giles, they will be working on a setup that produces even better results.

Mark Wells, who finished fourth, looked very comfortable in his new GF1 chassis and was very fast in the latter stages of the race until he was hampered by a deflating left rear tyre.

Carl Dowling, who charged through to finish fifth, showed plenty of early-season promise and if he can replicate his speed from late in last week’s event, he will enjoy another strong finish.

Jason Kendrick, who was challenging for the lead on the last lap before crashing out after contact with Farrell, will be looking to make amends.
