Veal wins Triple Crown Grand Final

VICTORIAN Jamie Veal the final of the AHG Triple Crown at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday, taking the 30-lap final from Jamie Maiolo and Jason Kendrick.

It was a good result for the driver of the Krikke Motorsport W2, who won the last meeting of the season by 2.642 seconds.

Veal started on the outside of the front row next to Maiolo and controlled the field for most of the event.

He was into lapped traffic after just five laps on a dusty track that proved to be brutal on tyres at the business end of the final.

Shaun Bradford was out of the contest after contact with rookie racer Mitch Wormall on the back straight on lap 10 for the only red light stoppage of the race.

They were joined on the infield by Jake Beard-Miller who took evasive action and found a gap between the damaged cars and the fence.

After the restart Maiolo made up some ground after slipping backwards earlier on.

Ryan Farrell, who started from P5, was trying to get underneath Carl Dowling but the move didn’t pay off and he spun around, being collected by Lee Nash, Ken Sartori and Kye Scroop who were all able to restart, but Farrell went infield with a flat tyre.

Lee Nash spun around in pits bend after cutting a left rear tyre on lap 17 and three laps later Daniel Harding was also out after a similar fashion three laps later.

Brad Maiolo was fourth and followed over the line by David Priolo, Dowling, Callum Williamson, Daryl Clayden, Terry Cutts and Ken Sartori who rounded out the top 10.

The inside line proved to be the winning one in the Top 8 Knockout series that was won by Maiolo who proved too good for Veal.

The crowd was on its feet in the fourth and final heat race after an epic duel between Sartori and Farrell.

Farrell started from P6 and powered around the top to take the lead in the early stages but Sartori (who started P2), who was running a lower line, then pulled up beside, seeing the pair race side by side for a couple of laps.

Farrell got the lead back and dropped down to the lower line, only to see Sartori run the high line on the last lap and take the win by 0.074 of a second.
