Kendrick the AHG champ!

AFTER being runner up for the past couple of seasons Jason Kendrick has finally broken through to win his maiden AHG Sprintcar Series championship.

His second in the series grand final at Quit Bunbury Speedway on Saturday night was enough for him to clinch the series that was won the past two seasons by Brad Maiolo.

Only six points separated Kendrick and Maiolo heading into the final and it was going to be game on after Jamie Maiolo, who was third and due to start on the front row, was a non-starter in the feature race.

Brad started from P10 and Jason from P11 with the latter getting a better start and moving forward a few spots.

It was game over for Brad's challenge when he rolled with four laps to go.

Kendrick's second is on the back of his win in the World Series Sprintcars grand final at the Perth Motorplex last Sunday night.

He claimed 2364 points to edge out Brad Maiolo's 2334.

Third was sprintcar rookie Jamie Oldfield who finished seventh and earned 2256 points.

Jamie Maiolo dropped back to fourth with 2242.

Andrew Priolo was fifth on 1924 points, ahead of another in his rookie AHG Series season - AJ Nash - was fifth on 1774 points.

Rounding out the top 10 was Jason Pryde 1396, Daniel Hardding 1318, Shaun Bradford 1260 and Scott Chatwin 1250.

It might have been the grand final of the AHG Sprintcar Series but it was also the first round of the AHG Triple Crown.

Round two is the final of the Krikke Boys Shootout on Sunday night with the third round being the Perth Motorplex Grand Final on April 7.
