Stewart dominates Albany Speedweek round

AFTER being unlucky in the first two rounds - American Shane Stewart bounced back in the best possible fashion, winning the next two rounds of the USA v WA Sprintcar Speedweek that wrapped up at Albany Speedway on Saturday night.

On the back of his win at Bunbury Speedway on New Year’s Day, Stewart took the Albany win from Callum Williamson and another American Bud Kaeding.

The winning margin over the 30-lap journey was 3.477 seconds.

Stewart started off the night in the Dowling Motorsports #87 with a third in Victory 1 Performance Qualifying, only being bettered by Jason Kendrick and Williamson.

He then took a win and a fourth in his heat races.

Stewart started on pole and quickly got the jump on Andrew Priolo to hit the lead - a position he held for the rest of the feature.

Williamson came out of P3 and got to second by lap five and he too was never challenged.

Kaeding, who started from P6, finally got to show what he was capable of on his WA tour, getting to third by lap five.

Jason Kendrick, who started fourth, dropped to fifth early on, before recovering to take fourth in the feature.

Kris Coyle started from P9 and dropped ground early on, but also recovered, racing between fifth and sixth, before eventually settling for fifth place.

Mitchell Wormall, who started from P8, got up to fifth at one time, but crossed the line in sixth.

Daniel Harding, who played his Joker in this round, doubling his points for the feature race, started from P5 and finished seventh.

Matthew Cross started from P10 and finished eighth.

The third American in the field, Harli White, started from P7 but was out of the contest by lap 10 after contact with Andrew Priolo.

Priolo then required a second restart just before midrace and was sent infield.

Round 11 of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series will be held at the Perth Motorplex next Saturday, January 11.

Heading into the round Harding now leads the points on 1680 from Wormall 1666, Coyle 1604, Williamson 1582 and Kendrick 1568 (who is the only driver in the top five yet to play his Joker - all drivers must play it by the completion of the next round).
